Nestled beside Baiyun Mountain with premium mountain and lake landscape resources, Luhu Resort Hotel is positioned as a high-end ecological resort hotel on the outskirts of Guangzhou. The central garden was originally paved with traditional preservative-treated solid wood decking. After 6 years of operation, widespread problems including mold growth, cracking, warping and exposed nail heads emerged, which not only degraded guest experience but also created potential safety hazards.
The subtropical Lingnan climate, featuring high temperature, high humidity and a prolonged rainy season, accelerated the aging of solid wood materials, leading to continuously high annual maintenance costs for the hotel.
The client put forward three core demands:
Thoroughly resolve durability issues in humid environments, and achieve low-maintenance or even maintenance-free operation.
Retain a natural wood aesthetic to stay visually coordinated with the garden's overall ecological landscape.
Withstand high foot traffic, ensure slip safety and barefoot comfort, and cater to both family vacation and business leisure guest groups.

Covering approximately 280 m², this area serves as the core circulation path from the main hotel building to the garden. The decking is laid in straight parallel rows with matching edge trims for smooth transition, guiding guests into the garden space. The wood grain texture naturally connects with the stone facade of the building, enhancing the sense of ceremony and premium quality at the entrance.
With an area of about 620 m², this circular leisure platform surrounds the central lawn, furnished with outdoor sofas, lounge chairs and mobile planters. The flat and spacious paving surface flexibly accommodates diversified events such as cocktail receptions, lawn weddings and brand activities, acting as the core activity zone of the hotel garden.
Covering approximately 410 m², the decking is paved around the outdoor infinity pool. The anti-slip texture of the co-extruded surface maintains a high friction coefficient even in wet conditions, effectively preventing slip accidents. The material itself is fully waterproof and non-absorbent, with no mold growth or expansion deformation after long-term contact with pool water, keeping the poolside clean and dry year-round.
With an area of about 310 m², this outdoor dining zone on the west side of the garden hosts all-day breakfast, afternoon tea and evening barbecue service. The decking features excellent stain resistance: spills such as coffee, sauces and beverages can be wiped clean directly with water without penetrating or leaving permanent marks, greatly reducing daily cleaning workload for the catering area.
Covering approximately 180 m², the boardwalk runs along the east side of the garden, winding through arbor and shrub landscape belts. The decking follows the natural terrain undulation while preserving native vegetation, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the forest atmosphere with a warm, comfortable underfoot walking experience.
With an area of about 60 m², this platform is located below the viewing pavilion at the highest point of the garden, offering a panoramic view of Luhu Lake. The decking connects seamlessly with the wooden pavilion structure, creating a unified visual effect and becoming one of the hotel's most popular photo spots.
Superior weather resistance adapted to Lingnan climate
The 2nd generation co-extruded outer layer fully blocks moisture and ultraviolet radiation. It resists mold, cracking and fading in high-temperature, high-humidity environments, completely eliminating the aging pain points of traditional preservative-treated wood.
Hidden installation for enhanced safety
The decking is fixed with 304 stainless steel hidden clips, leaving no exposed nail heads or burrs on the surface. It is safe and comfortable for guests to walk barefoot, making it especially suitable for family guests and poolside scenarios.
Eco-friendly and sustainable
The product is composited with 60% recycled wood fiber and 35% polymer materials, with zero formaldehyde emission and full recyclability, aligning with the hotel's green and sustainable brand philosophy.
Optimized full life-cycle cost
Daily maintenance only requires rinsing with clean water, with no need for repainting, sanding or anti-corrosion treatment. The annual maintenance cost is only 1/4 of that of traditional solid wood, delivering remarkable long-term economic benefits.
After the project was delivered and put into operation, the overall landscape quality of the hotel garden has been significantly improved. The average length of guest stay in outdoor areas has increased by about 40% compared with before the renovation, and outdoor catering revenue has also risen accordingly.
Feedback from the hotel engineering department shows that after the rainy season, no moss adhesion, deformation or arching has appeared on the decking surface, and cleaning and maintenance workload has been greatly reduced. This project has become a representative case of WPC paving for high-end hotel outdoor gardens in South China, providing a mature and referable solution for landscape upgrading of similar resort hotels.
